Because yes, it may be difficult and take time and effort, but this is your marriage we are talking about and divorce can be an even harsher, more final reality. Understand That, No Matter What The Problems Are In Your Marriage, Every Issue Comes Down To One Thing: Often when people contact me, they want to tell me every single issue in their marriage or they want to break down the cause of the divorce into what are really symptoms of a deeper problem, like: money; sex; infidelity; or stress. While all of these things can absolutely weaken or end your marriage, they all have the same issue at their core. If you can address and then fix this issue, then all of the other secondary symptoms will eventually fall away.

Every one, at their core, wants to feel loved, valued, and understood. If you understand this very basic concept and really remind yourself of this when you interact with your spouse, it can make a huge difference. Granted, it’s hard to see past negative feelings when you are confronted with them tirelessly, but if you want to save your marriage, you must. You have to be able to walk in your spouses shoes to understand what they really want so that you can provide it to them.

Why Am I Doing Everything To Save This Marriage Myself?: So often, women will admit to me that what I am saying makes perfect sense and just may work, but they can’t help resenting having to do everything on their own. They will often say things like “well, you’re not asking him to walk in my shoes,” or “he doesn’t have to do any of this and he gets all the reward.”

Yes, I understand that it feels this way right now. And, I understand that in the same way that he wants to feel valued and heard, so do you. So, let’s work on controlling those things first until things are much better and on much firmer ground.

And, understand too, that once your husband gets what he really wants (although even he may not realize it), he in turn will respond by giving you what you want. You may not believe this, but it’s true. Remember when you were first in love? Did he not shower you with affection and attention? I’ll bet he did and it’s because he felt he was receiving these things from you. When people feel that you “get” them and value their happiness, they are much nicer to be around and are often more than happy to return the favor.

People who are able to save their marriages solo understand that the time for score keeping and grudges have long past. It’s time to get down to what is truly the heart of the matter. ARGUE BUT MAKE UP AFTER
We used to argue a little bit every now and then. Minor disagreements that would get us fired up to a point where we had a relationship to save. Those moments came more often. What I started doing, was making up quickly after arguing. And I don’t mean sex. Just talk to her in a normal fashion and acknowlegde my part of the problem. After some time she started doing the same thing and now we both enjoy a more relaxed relationship. Do we still argue? Oh yes we do! But guess what? The making up after is better than it ever was. And yes, now I do mean the sex. But more on that later.

THINGS WE CAN DO TOGETHER
Everybody is talking about spending quality time together. We have tried that in a number of ways. And you know what worked for us? Sports. We just started running together. Three times a week we are working out and taking time off from our computers. And during these runs we get the chance to talk. That gives us more time in the evening to spend some more quality time, if you know what I mean. I know now that this a great way to work on my relationship. And I am sure that you will find something that you can do together.

SOCIALIZE
Do you feel sometimes you should get out more? Meet more people and have new friends? We did. The only people we visited were our parents and a couple old friends from school. We had a poor social life because we did not get out of the house. What did we do? We started investing in our own social network. I started coaching my son’s soccer team and she joined a women’s business club. We felt great meeting new people and we learned to enjoy socializing. How did that help save our relationship? Well spending time with other people will give more to talk about when you do your weekly run together.

GETTING PHYSICAL
The hard work was paying off and we both felt that the relationship could be saved. That was the time for me to work on my love making skills. And I did just that. Let me just tell you that I now know how to fully please my wife when the lights go out! And it has given me a whole other perspective on my new and improved relationship. It just feels great to give her that much more.

How you can do it?
There are a number of ways for you to work on your relationship. And my way will surely not be your way, since we are all different. But there is something I did that I know will work for you. Take some action. Do something to go forward and make a chance saving your relationship. You know you want to, but you don’t know how to.

Here are some really great tips to help save marriage. They should be natural and rather automatic for you, but I doubt that you have come up with them yourself yet or you wouldn’t be interested in ideas for saving your relationship. You need to have the mindset now that your marriage is brand new.  Everything is new.  This might be a bit more difficult if you have been together for a while, but it’s imperative that you see it this way. You can’t wait to get that phone call saying he or she is thinking of you! You’re excited! The relationship is fresh and new things are blooming on the horizon.

When that excitement and newness starts to wear off then we start seeing things as boring and routine.  We stop trying to be loving and impressive.  Don’t forget that you are very familiar to your partner too; maybe the problem is that you that are boring and routine acting.  Spice it up, baby!

Another important factor is to love your partner in the way that he or she needs and wants to be loved. Get it?  Not in the way that you need and want to be loved.  May be you’re not a touchy, feely kind of person, but this is what they need.  May be to them actions like these speak volumes to them about how much they are loved.  It could be that you only need to touch when you’re having sex, but to them just holding hands when you’re walking down the street is more orgasmic than any other thing you could do.  I am telling you that loving your partner in the way that they need to be loved is going to be more satisfying than the grandest meal in town!

Be physically affectionate.  No, it’s not just about sex.  It’s also about touching, caressing, feeling, sucking, squeezing, kissing…oh my goodness…I’ve got to get back on track.  Anyway, you get the idea!

Just stop arguing. Every time your partner says something that you don’t agree with…bite your tongue.  Learn to let it go. Be like a duck and just let it roll of your back.  It’s not that important that you have to make a major issue out of a minor disagreement.

To help save marriage, change your outlook concerning your priorities.  No, you don’t always have to be right.  You need to be in control enough to be able to let things go even if it means that you are passing up a chance to prove that you are right.  For some, this is like pulling teeth without novacaine.  This might be one of the most difficult things that you can consider doing.

Remember, you have to choose your priorities.  Is it more important to keep the peace and grow your relationship or is it more important to be right?
