Story:
Roxas and Axel are two detectives investigating the Destiny Murders – a series of murders that are identified by a small papou charm that is found at each murder. They both suspect Namine, a woman who keeps to herself in the old mansion, but no decisive evidence was ever found. As the killer only targets young men, Roxas decides to get involved with Namine, to lure her to either confessing or attempting to murder him. Axel tries to talk him out of it, as it was an emotional case for him, but Roxas refuses to listen and heads to the mansion to find her.
Namine initially pushes him away, uninterested in killing men that come after her. He persists, though, often coming and chasing after her affections. Eventually she gives in, and they have… something similar to a relationship. He often comes to the mansion and chats with her, and she occasionally agrees to go around town with him. She starts to actually enjoy his company, and slowly lets her guard down.
One day, however, as he is discussing the possibility of Namine being the Destiny Murderess with Axel, she walks in on them – she and Roxas has planned a date for that day. She gets very upset that he suspects her, and questions the time they had together. Roxas doesn’t answer, and she just smiles and leaves town.
Two weeks later, the murders seemed to have stopped alltogether, which pleases Axel, but troubles Roxas, as it seems that Namine was the true killer after all. He frets over it often, even after Axel tries to give him a pep talk. Roxas acts like he was just upset that they didn’t catch the killer, and demands why Axel is so happy about it. His friend sighs and admits he’s just happy no one else in their town has to die. Roxas remembers Namine’s words about others just being a burden and an unnecessary pain, and suddenly doubts Axel.
He gets worse over the next three weeks, getting the memories of Namine and his ex-girlfriend Kairi confused, although he can barely recall his old girlfriend’s face. Axel once again visits him, hoping to help his friend. Roxas refuses to listen to him, and leaves. He finds himself at the mansion, and sees a few photographs on the ground. He picks one up – which is of Kairi – and heads inside the mansion to find out the truth.
Namine is waiting inside for him, angry with him for what he accused her of, as she had started to have feelings for him. He immediately tells her it cannot work out, since he still loves Kairi and is going to get back together with her. She is upset by this, and tells him that Kairi will never get back together with him. Confused, Roxas tries to get more answers out of her, but she quickly leaves. She is torn between her feelings, and is unsure about what to do. Roxas tries to follow her, but passes out.
He wakes up in his room to find Axel there, who explains he was found alone in the mansion and brought home. Roxas asks Axel about Kairi, but his friend doesn’t answer, and tells Roxas to rest some more before he goes home himself, leaving behind a furious Roxas.
Roxas muses over Namine and the Kairi he can’t seem to remember. He searches his house for any remnant of his old girlfriend, but can’t find anything. Eventually, his memories of Namine and Kairi mix, until he can’t tell the two apart anymore. He finds Namine and they speak briefly. As he’s leaving, his memory returns, and he remembers what he had repressed. Kairi had been murdered after they had gotten engaged, and Namine, her best friend, was the prime suspect. All charges had been dropped, though, when there wasn’t enough evidence to convict her.
Namine had been watching Roxas from the shadows, and is crestfallen. She returns to the mansion, depressed, and awaits Roxas. After speaking one last time to Axel, he comes, as expected, and demands why she killed Kairi when they were friends. She says nothing, which enrages Roxas.
It cuts to Axel who enters the mansion with a few police officers. Namine is sitting in a chair quietly, and doesn’t look up when Axel approaches her. He says something quietly, and she glares at him. He shouts something at her, which she responds by staring coldly at him. He turns away, and tells the police to grab her, which they do, although Namine protests and fights. After a moment, she laughs, and tells something that horrifies Axel – the location of Roxas’s body.
“Roxas…”
“Kairi?”
“No…”
“Namine…?”
“We will meet again, and then we can talk about everything.”
“You mean…?”
“Yes…. We can be together again!”
“Right… Promise.”
