Xbox Underrated Gem: Deus Ex: Invisible War
This is a series of gameplay vids I’m doing highlighting overlooked games for the various consoles I own. Deus Ex: Invisible War is a somewhat controversial sequel to the original Deus Ex. In an attempt to make Deus Ex more accessible, Ion Storm cut many of the gameplay elements, or “dumbed up” many of the elements that made the original so great. They took a lot of them and combined them which took a lot of the depth out of the gameplay that was in the original. When compared to the original, it’s not as good, but in it’s defense, not many game are as good as the original Deus Ex. It’s a true classic, and one of my favorite games of all time. I loved it so much that Invisible War was one of my main reasons for getting an Xbox (my PC at the time had no chance of running it). If you can accept the fact that IW doesn’t hold up to the extremely high standards set by the original, then you can take it for what it is, and what it is is an extremely good game in it’s own right. The gameplay is all about choice. There is no set path to go through each level, and there is no set way to play. You can choose to charge in head first maiming and murdering a la Rambo style, or you can choose the pacifist route. Sneaking and non-lethal weapons. Though you always end up in the same place, it’s how you go about getting there that’s different. It’s in a way non-linear linearity where there is a scripted story that progresses, but the gameplay from point A to point B can be different every …

@MikeReiner I heard the PC version was very glitchy. I didn’t have a PC strong enough to play IW at the time, so it was one of my big reasons for buying an Xbox.
I couldn’t stand this game. It seemed like an ok game if you take it for what it is, but all the technical issues I had with it on the PC version made it not worth the hassle.
@dwain1987 When compared tot he original, it was a little disappointed, but in it’s own right, it’s still a very good game. They just made some wrong choices in the design when compared tot he original.
it is an underrated gem but total crap in comparison to the origonal if it had a diffrent title and story it would of been awsome, i was just dissapointed majorly because i was expecting something like the first, still okay game though might give it another playthrough
@I3oSsTrAd I’m not sure, it may have done decent, but overall, it doesn’t seem to be discussed much when the topic of the Xbox comes up. You hear Halo, and KOTOR, Jade Empire, Fable, and a number of others, but rarely do you hear about IW. It didn’t even sell well enough to get Platinum Hits.
@teh2Dgamer It’s a shame the popularity of the console version didn’t equal that of the PC, i wonder what the sales total for the first 3 months for consoles were?
@I3oSsTrAd I’m specifically speaking about the Xbox version here. Despite the great scores it received, the game was still largely overlooked by Xbox gamers.
Given it wasn’t as large on console as it could have been due to the release of Halo 2 coming out around December, this game was in no way under-rated…..imho =)
@vglp33 Yeah, that’s what I’m saying when I say underrated.
@teh2Dgamer Oh, I see. Yeah, if a popular game comes out, some gems that come out around the same time get little attention. I agree.
@vglp33 The PC version aren’t underrated, they are relatively well known, but the Xbox version was mostly overlooked by the Halo generation.
I wouldn’t call this game Under-rated now.
@SouthOx
No, you’re not.
I HAVE NOT JOINED THE BANDWAGON!
Hey do you want guards who will go up 3 at a time with flamethrowers up against someone with a baton and still lose? Yes? Then pick us!

MAKE DEUS EX INTO A MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Holy System Shock 2. Seriously!
This game was awesome. The decisions you made felt like they had a genuine impact on the story. I remember finding the rail gun too, no more hiding behind walls Mr bad guy
@Balertman it was the best
@Doominatorx6 I agree, the original was better, but this game is still great in it’s own way.
